Most people have heard of the analogy of the bank account that every day has $86400 deposited in it and at the end of the day, it goes away only to be refreshed the next day. It raises the question, what would you do with that amount of money each day? It makes people think, but at the end of the day, most of us don't have $86400 coming in each day.
I’ve never been able to deal with the idea of things being finite. I remember being in school learning that the universe was infinitely big like there was no end to it, I liked that idea, I liked the idea that there was no end. My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 103 verse 12, where it talks about how big God's love is, referencing the distance between the East and the West. There is no way to measure that distance, it will forever be chasing itself, and therefore it is infinite.
I like the idea of infinity, what I don’t like is the idea that anything will end. I hate it when the last page of the book is read and there is not another in the series when you see the last episode of a good TV series. Finite things are not exciting, and we don’t like to think about them.
The hard reality of life is that it is finite. We will only be here for a limited time only. Each day we live is only eighty-six thousand four hundred seconds long. That is the amount of time that we have to tell the people we love we love them, that is the amount of time we have to share an experience with someone and to create a memory. You are given 86400 moments every day to do something, to love someone or to enjoy something.
Time is finite, no one likes to think about it, but we are going to die someday, our loved ones are also going to die someday. Even as I write this I’m thinking of all of the people I need to send a text to tell them I love them, care about them or that I use one of my precious seconds thinking about them. I don’t like thinking of having $86400 dollars every day to make my life better, I realized that I only have 86400 moments to make this world a better place, to enjoy my life and the people I surround myself with and create amazing memories.
I am not at all saying that every moment should be spent being productive. What I am saying is that every moment should be lived with purpose, if you’re at work, then be at work, don’t only be thinking about not being at work, if you are with friends then be with your friends (not on your phone the whole time). In everything we do, we should do it with purpose, get as much out of life as you can.
86400 minus any time that you are sleeping, that is your time in your day. In a year you will have 31,536,000 seconds. I’ll be honest and tell you I don’t want to think about how many seconds the average person will have in their lifetime. Every day, use some of those seconds to make the other seconds better (meditation, working out, reading/learning), spend some of those seconds collecting resource’s to have more seconds (making money/working) spend some seconds on your self (reading, playing video games, watching TV or movies) and spend as much of the rest of your seconds, sharing them with the people who worthy of your precious seconds.
If you want a reminder of this, then check out this wall art we have, I'll be honest it has really changed my life.
